
Names like Kanye West, R. Kelly, and Twista all have one thing in common, Chicago's South Side. Now hip-hop producer JClay can be added to the same prestigious list of talent. Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Jelani R. Clay realized his love for music at an early age. As an adolescent, JClay was in awe as he listened to his sister decipher the notes to the Coca Cola jingle on the family piano and was often visited by the Afro-Cuban drum patterns of his percussionist father. As a result, JClay was able to hone his talent.
Playing radio cuts by ear and making live freestyle beats in the band room of Leo High School, JClay was able to make a name for himself as a future icon. He met with producer E. Dixon to lay down a track for local talent Anon. While in the company of Dixon, JClay learned the basics of how to cut a record.
In 2002 at Prairie View A & M University, JClay met aspiring artists Rahlo....And if you are reading this, the rest is obvious. Pink Slip Records is a force to be reckoned with.
